A Berry Good Time

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Well the season has started with a vengeance. We will need more pickers very soon. This weekend it rained overnight and in the early morning delaying the start of picking. We didn’t expect to pick on the Saturday and told one of our pickers not to come in but by the afternoon we had our three in house pickers flat out picking.

Great berries now available including raspberries , strawberries and two varieties of blackberries. We should have some cherries in about a week and even though our main orchard has just been netted we won’t have as many as we would like. The netted area hasn’t been very productive to date mainly because of kangaroos damaging the trees. So an added advantage of the bird netting hopefully is that it will keep the animals out and allow the young trees to become established

About Denis Buchanan

Once upon a time I was a Chemical Engineer now I am a born again Farmer. The transition was really quite easy with the major change that the life of feasibility studies has ended and any experiment that I wish to undertake is at my peril.
