Fresh Fruit
This is a testing time for all Australians and in in fact the World. Corona virus has in a very short time affected the way we live.
Here in Tasmania’s East Coast tourism has virtually stopped. Music festivals, bike riding and so many activities have been put on hold or cancelled. Restaurants, hotels , accommodation setups, retail shops all have experienced mind boggling changes in their mode of operand i.
Here at Eureka Farm we have been affected by the local stores purchasing trends. . In recent years we have noticed that the big stores are tending to buy their fruit and vegetables increasingly through the large wholesaler in much the same way customers were also shopping almost entirely from the one store.
In addition many of the smaller independent green grocers have closed down. This obviously seriously affected our sales.
This year however things have taken a turn for the better. We find many of our customers like the assurance that they are only getting freshly picked fruits. They like to come and see just what is being picked at that time of year. And that’s what we have always been our specialty. We try to grow as many fruits as we can over the summer season and extend the fruits available as long as possible.
This of course means that we don’t sell fruit that may look good but has gone starchy. We don’t mix old and new season apples for example together. The so-called specials of apples and pears which regularly flood the market but which are last seasons just doesn’t happen here.
This season we have lots more fruit than ever before. 2 of our orchards are close to our shop so we offer customers a chance to pick their own. At the same time they can see what is coming up and know that in a repeat visit they will be able to pick them too. Everyone needs to understand that the most flavorsome fruit can’t be picked before it has ripened.
Learning when to eat the fruits is an important step in enjoying fruits . And eating fresh fruit is an just as important fro your health.
We look forward to your continued support. Our farm will change in the way it operates in future years but we don’t expect the fruit to lesson.
