Just Blogging along..
September is going very quickly. Quite a few warmer days and it won’t be long and we will not need a fire at night. Some of the apricots are showing fruitlets. A good sign that the bees have been busy. However there has been many windy days this month which is not good for pollination as the blossoms can get blown away and the bees have trouble working under such conditions. We can only live in hope!
Little rain too; less than the norm. So we are getting ready to water, driplines have been purged; with blocked and damaged drippers replaced. Some foliar sprays and protectorant sprays have also been put out. The main diseases so far noticed are antracnose on the berries especially raspberries and blackberries. Also rust on the blackberries. Aphids on early stonefruit trees as the first leaves appeared. And on the ground those blasted rabbits are sneaking in for a feed. If they only ate grass I wouldn’t mind. But they have a nasty habit of ringbarking the trees and especially the young apple trees. Must be something in the back which they are missing food wise. It seems to be only a problem in the winter months.
Good news is that one of the geese has had seven goslings.
On the website we have two web sites: www.eurekafarm.net and this one www.eurekafarm.com.au The first one has been developed mainly as a shopping cart for those that wish to buy our products. So I suppose you could say it was developed with a more serious and commercial angle. This one is primarily to let people know more about what is happening on the farm and to some extent what we are doing during the year. We hope it will be interesting for all and allow us to hear from you and to some extent keep in contact.
