Trekking in the Himalayas
You might be wondering what has happened to my Farmer’s Blog. Well the answer is simple. From the middle of June to the beginning of August I went trekking in India again. this year I went by myself as Ann reckoned she was not up to the level of activity that I planned to do. So in that time I did 4 treks. The Kugti Pass trek is already on my web site and that was the 2nd trek that I did.
The first 2 treks were in Himachal Pradesh and the last 2 were in Kashmir.
All of these treks were self organised. On some occasions I hired a guide or porter particularly when I had the full pack. Later I left all of that behind with friends in Scrinagar and just carried a dayback. Most of the time I didn’t take food but shared with my hosts along the way. The main reason for this approach was that I didn’t have any room for food and as I was often alone I didn’t want to camp on my own.
My greatest regret is that I didn’t speak the local language. Many of the places I travelled don’t see many tourists and very much wanted to know about my world. Likewise I too could have learnt a lot more by talking rather than just observation. I hope you like these talks and I will be much more attentive to my blogging in future.
